Ron Rivera opens up about Carson Wentz’s departure from the Commanders

The Washington Commanders’ decision to release quarterback Carson Wentz after just one season was a controversial one, and head coach Ron Rivera has finally spoken out about it. In a recent interview, Rivera acknowledged that it was a “tough decision,” but ultimately the right one for the team.

“Carson is a talented quarterback,” Rivera said. “I have a lot of respect for him, and I appreciate everything he did for us last season. But we felt that it was time to move on in a different direction.”

Rivera went on to say that the decision was based on a number of factors, including Wentz’s inconsistent play, the team’s salary cap situation, and the development of young quarterback Sam Howell.

“We have a lot of confidence in Sam,” Rivera said. “We think he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback, and we want to give him the opportunity to develop.”
